The Cajun Mardi Gras is a kind of traditional Mardi Gras that is held in many Cajun communities. They are ethinic French-speaking Acadians mainly in Louisiana. It is held during the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. The Courir de Mardi Gras literally translates to Fat Tuesday Run. On this day, people spend the day drinking and eating to their heart's content as they are expected to abstain and fast for the following day, Ash Wednesday, which begins their Lenten abstinence season.
