Marie is the little white kitten in Disney's The Aristocats, and she is easy to recognise from across a room: soft white fur, a big pink bow at her neck and a small pink bow perched on a tuft of hair. That makes a Marie Aristocats costume one of the friendliest cat looks for Halloween. Adults can build it from a pair of white cat ears, a white top and a bow, kids can wear an official kit, and you can go as the whole family with her mother Duchess.

Getting the Details Right

Marie is a white Turkish Angora kitten with long fluffy fur, bright blue eyes with long lashes, a light pink nose and pink paw pads, according to the Disney Wiki. In the film's art she also has pale pink inside her ears and only a few thin whiskers on each cheek. Everything else is white, so the pink accessories are what make her Marie rather than any white cat.

The two bows matter most. Her big neck bow is a wide satin ribbon in a medium pink, and it sits right under her chin. The smaller bow sits on a little tuft of fur between her ears. The oversized satin bow above wears like a choker, so it sits where hers does. For the head bow, twist a small section of hair on top into a topknot or short ponytail and clip a mini bow onto it, right between the ears. If the ears headband sits too far forward, clip the bow just behind it.

Pick white pieces that are pure white, not cream or grey, so the pink stands out. A white long sleeve top with the fluffy skirt gives the "fur" and stays comfortable for a full evening. The skirt is a short one, so wear white leggings or shorts underneath if you want more coverage. Add the tail and paw mitts and you have the silhouette from the film.

Face makeup finishes it. Dab the pink face paint on the tip of the nose in a small rounded triangle, then draw three thin whiskers on each cheek with black eyeliner. Marie's eyes are blue, so a light blue eyeshadow swept toward the outer corners, with a little winged liner and long lashes, echoes her drawn eyes. Kids can skip the eye makeup and just do the nose and whiskers.

Easiest Marie Costumes to Buy

Official adult onesie. There is a licensed Disney Cat Union Suit for Adults in size Large/X-Large. It is a white one-piece hooded pajama with an embroidered Marie face and 3D ears on the hood, her signature tuft bow, a large plush bow on the back and a small tail. It also comes in Small/Medium and 2X-Large/3X-Large. The big bow is on the back instead of at the neck, so wear the large pink satin bow from the table under the hood if you want it under your chin like hers.

Official ears, collar and tail kit. The cat ears, collar and tail kit includes soft-sculpted ears with embroidered face details, a velour bow collar and a faux fur tail that attaches with hook and loop. It is modelled on a child, so adults should treat it as an accessory for photos, not a guaranteed fit.

Budget kit. For a low-cost set, the white cat costume accessories set has adult-size white cat ears, a tail, an adjustable pink bow tie and a pink bow hairpin, plus fur leg warmers and wrist cuffs. Wear it with a white top and skirt or leggings. The bow tie in that set is small, so swap in the larger satin bow from the table if you want Marie's big neck bow.

Kids Marie Costume

Marie is a kitten, so she suits children well. The easiest option is the official Cat ears, collar and tail kit over a white top and white leggings. A plain white cat costume also works as a base, such as this white cat jumpsuit for kids with an attached tail; add the large pink bow at the neck and a small pink bow on the hood or in the hair. For toddlers, there is a licensed pink White cat romper with bow-tie straps in 4-5T, and for everyday wear a pink Cat graphic dress for big kids in sizes 4 to 12, though it is a dress, not a fluffy costume.

Group and Franchise Ideas

Marie is one of Duchess's three kittens, so a family group is the natural choice. Officially licensed plush headband, collar and tail kits exist for her mother Duchess (listed for adults and kids) and for the alley cat Thomas O'Malley (also listed for adults and kids). Her brothers Toulouse and Berlioz have kits from elope as well, which makes a full five-cat family with Marie as the little white kitten in front. Those plush kits are built from a soft headband, a collar and a tail, so they pair easily with plain clothes in each cat's colour.

About Marie from The Aristocats

Marie is the middle kitten and the only girl of Duchess, the elegant white cat in Disney's 1970 animated film The Aristocats. She is a dreamer who tries to act like a proper lady, like her mother, and can come across as spoiled or sassy to her brothers Toulouse and Berlioz. She was voiced by Liz English.

The film is set in Paris in 1910. Duchess and her three kittens live in luxury with the retired opera singer Madame Adelaide Bonfamille until the butler, Edgar, learns the cats will inherit her fortune and drops them in the countryside. A feral alley cat, Thomas O'Malley, offers to guide the family back to Paris, and Marie falls into a river along the way and is pulled out by O'Malley. The Aristocats was released on December 24, 1970.
