About Ian Malcolm
Dr. Ian Malcolm, played by Jeff Goldblum, is one of main characters of the franchise, he appears in the first and the second Jurassic Park movies. In Jurassic Park The Dark World, the second film of the franchise, Malcolm is the protagonist of the film. Malcolm is a mathematician who specializes in an area of mathematics known as “Chaos Theory.”
Malcolm is portrayed in the first movie at somewhat unlikable character, because he has an annoying personality where he is arrogant and know-it-all, yet unreliable.
As the protagonist in the second film, Malcolm seems to become a control freak and a pessimistic person which it doesn’t at all compliment or help improve his old traits. The Dark Word takes place four years after the horrific outbreak in the first film, Malcolm is trying to expose the truth about what happened on Isla Nublar to the public, however John Hammond’s nephew discredits him by calling him out for being mentally disturbed and insane.
The conflict also draws him back to the island and the dangers from the dinosaurs again. Nevertheless, he survives the islands and thrives because his bad reputation painted by Hammond’s nephew is restored.
