Diego is the animal rescuer from Go, Diego, Go!, so the look is a kid-friendly explorer. It is easy to piece together from everyday clothes: a light blue tee, a cream vest worn open, blue cargo shorts and sturdy gray shoes. The two details people recognise him by are the orange Rescue Pack strap across the chest and the blue watch on his wrist. For a child, items 9 and 10 are a ready-made version. For anyone older, the table above builds the same outfit from regular clothes in adult sizes.

Getting Diego's Details Right

Diego has worn several outfits over the years, so decide which one you want before you shop.

  • Go, Diego, Go! (the classic look): light blue shirt, cream vest, darker blue cargo shorts, white socks, gray shoes and a blue-and-yellow watch. This is the one this guide follows.
  • First appearances on Dora the Explorer: a darker blue shirt, tan vest, green cargo shorts, green socks and brown boots. If you want that version, the Diego outfit in our Dora the Explorer guide uses green cargo shorts, green socks and brown hiking boots.
  • Go, Diego, Go! season 4: a short-sleeved red sweatshirt over an orange top, dark cargo shorts, white socks and black-and-red sneakers.

For the vest, the Animal Rescue badge is a small round patch on the chest with an animal-and-nature emblem. There is no ready-made patch to buy, so cut a circle of green and yellow felt or draw one with fabric markers and stick it on the left side of the vest. Wear the vest open so the blue shirt shows. If you want him to look ready to work, hang the watch where it can be seen and carry a small stuffed animal, since rescuing animals is the whole point of the show.

Budget and Group Ideas

  • Already own blue clothes? A light blue tee, blue shorts and any beige or cream vest get you most of the way there. Add the orange bag and you are Diego.
  • Diego and Dora are cousins, so a pair costume is easy. Pair him with Dora, Boots and Diego from Dora the Explorer, or add Baby Jaguar in a spotted onesie.
  • A group of kids can be Diego, Dora and Boots the monkey, with a stuffed animal to "rescue."

About Diego Márquez

Diego Márquez is Dora's cousin, an 8-year-old animal rescuer who loves exploring and protecting animals and their habitats. He first appeared in the Dora the Explorer episode "Meet Diego!" and then starred in his own Nickelodeon spin-off, Go, Diego, Go!, which ran from 2005 to 2013. He works with his orange Rescue Pack, which turns into whatever he needs, and with friends like Baby Jaguar. Jake T. Austin voiced him for most of the show, and Jeff Wahlberg played the older Diego in the 2019 live-action film Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
