Janis Joplin was popular because of her distinct and original voice. She was one of the most successful rock stars of her era and is loved for her mezzo-soprano vocals and amazing stage presence. Joplin first started out as the lead singer of the then-small rock band called Big Brother and the Holding Company.

About Janis Joplin
Janis Joplin was on a roll in her career when she suddenly died of an accidental overdose in 1970. She was only 27-years-old which made her a member of the infamous 27 Club (an group of famous actors and artists who all died at the age of 27).
Joplin was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
