About the Eskimo

The term ‘Eskimo’ pertains to the indigenous people residing in the cold regions of Siberia and Alaska. It comes from the dialect of the Algonquin tribes which was used in regards to their neighboring tribes, the Yupik and Iñupiat. Governments have stopped using the term in official documents as the two tribes mentioned do not use them to pertain to themselves.
