The Harlem Nights characters appear in the 1989 crime comedy-drama movie starring and directed by Eddie Murphy Harlem Nights. It tells the story of two nightclub owners in the 1920s and 30s in Harlem while they go against gangsters and corrupt police authorities. While the critical review of the movie was not satisfactory, it has since been regarded as a cult classic.
Harlem Nights was nominated for Best Costume Design at the Academy Awards. The characters wear a long-sleeved white button-down shirt, a 3-piece gray pinstripe suit, black and white oxford shoes, a wine red necktie and pocket square, and a fedora gangster hat for the men; and a 1920s vintage black cocktail party dress, T-strap black dance shoes, a vintage headband, black lace gloves, a flapper necklace, earrings, and a white feather boa for women.
