|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Spiky Light Blue Wig | Same shocked-up, light blue-white hair as Rick Sanchez. This is the one piece the two costumes share. | π Check on Amazon |
| 2 | Navy Stand-Collar Moto Jacket | The single biggest swap: no lab coat. Rick Prime wears a fitted, zip-front jacket in dark navy with a stand collar, not Rick's off-white coat. | π Check on Amazon |
| 3 | Maroon Long Sleeve Shirt | A plain dark maroon crew shirt worn under the jacket, the only warm color in an otherwise cold palette. | π Check on Amazon |
| 4 | Dark Navy Pants | Plain, fitted dark navy pants β no khaki or brown like Rick Sanchez's. | π Check on Amazon |
| 5 | Buckle-Strap Ankle Boots | Dark boots with a strap and buckle at the ankle, in place of Rick's plain black Oxfords. | π Check on Amazon |
| 6 | Tactical Thigh Strap | Worn diagonally across the hip and down the outer thigh β a harness detail Rick Sanchez doesn't wear. | π Check on Amazon |
| 7 | Portal Gun | Optional prop; every Rick variant carries one. | π Check on Amazon |
Rick Prime is what happens when you take Rick Sanchez and strip out the manic energy β he's the "original" Rick from the show's true home universe, the one who murdered the main Rick's wife and daughter and spent two seasons as the show's central villain. Build-wise he's a near match for a standard Rick Sanchez costume, which is exactly the problem: get the palette wrong and you've just built a slightly off Rick Sanchez. Get it right and the contrast reads instantly.
The hair carries over untouched β same spiky, light blue-white wig, same messy part. Everything below the neck is where the two costumes split. Rick Sanchez wears a mint sweater, brown pants and a pristine off-white lab coat; official show art puts Rick Prime in a completely different outfit β a fitted, zip-front jacket with a stand-up collar in dark navy, over a maroon shirt, dark pants, and buckled ankle boots, with a strap running diagonally across one hip and down the thigh. There's no lab coat anywhere on him. If your first instinct is "same coat, just black," check a reference image first β that's not what's on screen.
The stock jacket above won't have Rick Prime's diagonal accent panel across the chest (a muted red-brown stripe on the model sheets). A strip of dark red ribbon or fabric tape run diagonally from the collar to the side seam, glued or stitched down, gets you the rest of the way for a couple of dollars. Keep the jacket zipped most of the way β Rick Prime is rarely shown with it hanging open the way Rick Sanchez wears his coat.
The expression is the other half of it. Rick Sanchez plays manic, exhausted, and a little unhinged. Rick Prime is calm, flat-browed and unbothered even mid-fight β closer to a bored predator than a mad scientist. If you're doing this for a photo or a group shot, that stillness sells the character as much as the clothes do.
Because the two costumes are easy to mix up at a glance, pair Rick Prime with a standard Rick Sanchez for a "which one is the impostor" group costume β same wig, opposite jacket. Add a Morty Smith to either Rick to round out the pair.
About Rick Prime
Rick Prime is the Rick and Morty franchise's central antagonist for most of its later seasons β the version of Rick Sanchez from the "original" reality, before the Council of Ricks and the Citadel existed. In Rick C-137's backstory, Rick Prime is the one who destroyed his family: he killed C-137's wife Diane and daughter Beth with a dimensional weapon, the event that turned the show's Rick into the character audiences know. Rick spends years hunting him across the multiverse in return.
Rick Prime is first shown and named at the start of season 6, in the September 2022 premiere "Solaricks," and drives the show's overarching plot through the rest of that season. He's finally caught and killed in the season 7 episode "Unmortricken" (November 2023), when Evil Morty disables Rick Prime's army of backup clones and Rick beats him to death with his bare hands β an unusually blunt, personal ending for a show built on cosmic-scale sci-fi.
He was voiced by series co-creator Justin Roiland through his season 6 appearances, and by Ian Cardoni following the show's season 7 recast.
