Rock Em Sock Em Robots are the two robots (named Red Rocker and Blue Bomber) in the hugely successful action toy and game of the same name. It was first released in the 1960s by the Marx toy company. The game, which is still an old favorite, is operated by two players controlling the movements of their robot boxers mechanically with a joystick in an attempt to be the first to pop off the other robot’s spring-loaded head.

Rock Em Sock Em Robots do not need any batteries to operate. They wear a long-sleeved red workout shirt, red sweatpants, red slip-on sneakers, and a red cardboard robot head, arms and legs for Red Rocker; and a long-sleeved blue athletic shirt, blue jogger pants, blue sports sneakers, and a blue cardboard robot head, arms and legs for Blue Bomber.

About Rock Em Sock Em Robots

During the development of the boxing toy, a featherweight champion boxer died in the ring prompting the developers to make the characters non-human as possible. Thus the boxers were made to be two robots and a text back-story was added on the box that the robot boxers were from two alien planets in outer space and that each of them weigh almost 400 pounds.
