Both twins add a gangster holster and toy gun worn under the jacket. Keep it an obvious toy, and check your venue's rules before bringing any prop weapon.
Getting the details right
- Smoke is loose, Stack is fitted. The costume designer, Ruth E. Carter, built Smoke as the "no frills" brother and Stack as the tailored one, so keep Smoke's suit a size roomier and Stack's snug.
- The collar tells them apart. Smoke buttons his shirt to the neck with no tie; Stack wears a tie and a matching pocket square.
- One color each. Smoke reads in cool blues and grays, Stack in burgundy and pink. If you're doing this with a twin, keep to one palette each rather than mixing.
- They're both from Chicago. Both suits are heavy wool, out of place next to the cotton and denim of the Mississippi Delta town they return to, so don't roll up the sleeves or go too casual.
Smoke and Stack costume ideas to go with it
