Queen Lillian is the gracious ruler of Far Far Away and Princess Fiona's mother. She first appears in Shrek 2 and returns in Shrek the Third, where the queen turns out to have plenty of her daughter's fighting spirit. Her Queen Lillian costume is easy to put together from a pink medieval dress, a small gold crown, and a blonde curled updo, and it is a comfortable pick for a mother-and-daughter or family group.

2Small Gold Mini CrownHer crown is a tiny gold circlet with a few points, perched on top of her hair, not a tall tiara. This mini gold crown is the right scale; pin it on the bun with bobby pins.🛒 Check on Amazon
3Blonde Side-Swept Bun HairpieceHer hair is dirty blonde, swept back from the face into a low bun at the back of her head. This blonde bun hairpiece with side-swept bangs clips over your own hair and gives the same shape. Pick the blonde shade.🛒 Check on Amazon

Getting Queen Lillian's Look Right

  • Colour: her gown is a warm rose or salmon pink, not pastel baby pink or hot pink. If you have the choice, take the darker shade.
  • Neckline: the cream square yoke at the chest is her most recognisable detail. If your dress has a white chemise or inset, show it. If not, a cream lace or satin panel pinned inside the neckline works.
  • Crown: keep it small and gold, sitting on top of the bun. A big sparkly tiara looks like a pageant queen, not Lillian.
  • Hair: it is smooth, swept back and pinned low at the back, not long and wavy. Keep it neat.
  • Pose: she folds her hands in front of her and keeps a calm, polite smile. It is half the costume.

Alternate Looks and Group Ideas

  • Budget version: a plain rose-pink long dress or a pink Renaissance faire gown with a cream scarf at the neckline covers most of the look. Add the crown and a pinned-up wig.
  • Mauve-pink option: this dress is a deeper mauve-pink with white puff sleeves and a laced front, if you want a darker rose than the main pick.
  • Far Far Away family: pair her with Fiona and Shrek from our Shrek and Princess Fiona guide for a family or couples group. King Harold is a frog in his true form, so a green frog hoodie and a gold crown makes a funny addition.
  • Villains of Shrek 2: Fairy Godmother and her son Prince Charming round out the Far Far Away ball. Lillian is fooled by Charming's disguise at first, which makes her calm reaction at the ball fun to act out.

About Queen Lillian

Lillian was born into royalty in Far Far Away and married King Harold, who turns out to have been a frog all along. In Shrek 2 she welcomes Fiona home and tries to keep the peace between Harold and her new ogre son-in-law, and in the end embraces Harold "warts and all". In Shrek the Third she is widowed, but she rallies the other princesses to escape and fight, and she is later seen doting on her ogre grandchildren. She is voiced by Julie Andrews.
